Arsenal news: Carlo Ancelotti warning, Gunners dealt massive injury blow, the transfer fans want

Post by admin » Thu Dec 12, 2019 7:59 am

It is match day for Arsenal as Freddie Ljungberg takes the Gunners to Belgium to face Standard Liege in the Europa League.

The Gunners face the Belgian side in their final group stage game, knowing that they will secure a place in the knockout stages of the competition if they can avoid defeat.

Arsenal will be buoyed by their 3-1 win away against London rivals West Ham United on Monday, which ended a ten-game winless run.

But the Gunners have a number of players unavailable for the game in Belgium, owing to injuries and suspensions.

Below, we take a look at the latest Arsenal news ahead of the game.
Carlo Ancelotti warning

Arsenal are one of a number of clubs to have been linked with a move for former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti, after he was sacked by Napoli earlier this week.

Despite guiding the Italian side to the last 16 of the Champions League, Ancelotti was shown the door by the Serie A club shortly after their 4-0 win against Genk on Tuesday night.

That fuelled speculation over his future, amid links with a potential return to the Premier League, with Arsenal and Everton both searching for new managers and pressure increasing on West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini.

And former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas insists that the Italian will not be out of work for long.

“I think he has got a lot of suitors that would love him at the football club," Jenas said, speaking on BT Sport's Champions League highlights programme, when asked about the links with Arsenal and Everton in the wake of his Napoli exit.

"He has always done a great job wherever he has been, Chelsea being one, and I think the Premier League will come calling.

“As managers go, he would be one right at the top of the list for either Everton or West Ham.

“Once a name like this comes to light, things start to happen, because clubs want them.”

Injury blow confirmed

Arsenal have a number of injury problems going into the game against Standard Liege today (Thursday).

The Gunners will be without a number of stars for the game, including Hector Bellerin, Nicolas Pepe, Rob Holding and Dani Ceballos, who are all currently out injured.

Granit Xhaka will also miss out as the Gunners continue to manage him as per concussion protocols, after he was struck in the head against West Ham.

In addition, Shkodran Mustafi is suspended for the game, after picking up three yellow cards in the Europa League this season.

But Arsenal were dealt another blow yesterday (Wednesday), with Kieran Tierney set to be out for around three months.

The former Celtic left-back fell awkwardly and had to be withdrawn on the half hour mark during the 3-1 victory at London Stadium, with the Scottish international taken to hospital after landing on his shoulder.

Further diagnosis has revealed the 22-year-old has damaged his shoulder, and a spell of up to three months on the sidelines is expected. Tierney is to continue receiving consultations on his shoulder, with an expected return date not yet clear.

The transfer the Arsenal fans want

The January transfer window is just around the corner - and Arsenal fans are hoping for some new additions.

The Gunners may not have a permanent manager in place at the moment, but there are still plenty of players who have been linked with a move to north London as Arsenal look to try and get their push for a top four finish back on track.

Arsenal currently sit tenth in the Premier League, seven points behind Chelsea in fourth after 16 games.

One of Arsenal's biggest problems so far this season has been the defence, with 24 goals conceded in 16 games - and a defender is top of the wishlist for Arsenal fans who have been telling football.london what the Gunners need in the winter transfer window.

In a fan survey that polled their thoughts on signings in the future, they were asked which positions needed the most attention, the one footballer they would like to see signed by Arsenal and the best and worst of the transfer rumours they had heard so far.

And the player who came out on top as the one Gunners fans would most like to sign was Dayot Upamecano.

The Frenchman currently plays for RB Leipzig, but has been heavily linked with a move to north London.

Arsenal fans are hoping that will be sooner rather than later, according to the results of our poll, with Upamecano polling 29.32 per cent of the votes to the question of which player supporters would like to see join in January, if only one player could be signed.

No other player polled more than ten per cent, with Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi second on the list with 9.09 per cent of the vote.
