Three captains at the top, a young leader in waiting and two stars who help integrate new signings

Although they have endured some frustrating results this season, Bayern Munich are still one of the standout sides in Europe and a fascinating insight has been provided into the club's leadership structure.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who has been at Bayern since 2011, is the club captain, with Thomas Muller the vice-captain and Robert Lewandowski the third captain, as reported by BILD.

Interestingly, the next in line, despite being just 24 years old, is Joshua Kimmich.

The Germany international, who can play in midfield or at right-back, is seen as a potential future captain for both club and country.

Last weekend Kimmich was involved in a heated exchange with team-mate Jerome Boateng during Bayern's 6-1 win against Werder Bremen, with David Alaba having to intervene.

Kimmich is close friends with many of the younger members of the Bayern squad and possesses a fierce desire to win.

Beyond him is Thiago, who takes care of the integration of foreign players into the squad, and David Alaba, who helps youngsters to settle.

The likes of Leon Goretzka, Niklas Sule, Serge Gnabry and Javi Martinez follow. The new players don't have a big role in proceedings.

Boateng, meanwhile, is one of the longest-serving members of the Bayern squad and is respected by his team-mates but is described as being a loner.

Bayern are currently in fifth place in the Bundesliga, while they are through to the last-16 of the Champions League, where they will face Chelsea.

Hans-Dieter Flick is currently Bayern's interim head coach following the departure of Niko Kovac.
